Solar Photovoltaic and Battery Energy Storage System

Recipient of Rocky Mountain Power Blue Sky Renewable Energy Grant

All Saints Episcopal Church

All Saints Episcopal Church is pleased to announce it is a 2024 recipient of a Rocky Mountain Power Blue Sky funding award for a community-based renewable energy project. The project consists of 138 roof-mounted solar panels with a combined capacity of 58 kilowatts. In addition, the project includes a renewable energy storage system consisting of six batteries with a combined energy capacity of 112 kilowatts-hours. The energy storage system will participate in Rocky Mountain Power’s Wattsmart battery program. The combined solar and energy storage system is expected to produce over 70,000 kilowatt-hours of carbon-free electricity per year which is slightly over 80% of the church’s annual electric energy use. The church’s location on Foothill Drive will be a showcase for renewable energy.

All Saints Episcopal Church is the home of three different faith communities and supports multiple 12-step programs and other community events.

The project was kicked off internally in early 2024 following an intense capital campaign. Initially, the church replaced its aging 25-year-old roof to support solar panels. In March 2024, All Saints Episcopal Church submitted its application for a Blue Sky community renewable energy grant to Rocky Mountain Power. Rocky Mountain Power made the Blue Sky award to All Saints Episcopal Church in October 2024. In April 2025, work began after some interconnection issues were addressed. By June 2025, the project was essentially complete. The system began operating after the net meter was installed in August 2025.

The Blue Sky program is an opt-in program that provides Rocky Mountain Power customers with an option to match all or part of their energy use with renewable energy thereby reducing their carbon footprint. All Saints Episcopal Church has participated in Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program since September 2008. All Saints Episcopal Church has availed itself of several Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart programs to improve electric energy efficiency use in the building, including LED lighting upgrades and installation of high efficiency HVAC systems. The Blue Sky program fosters the development of local renewable energy by investing in community-based renewable energy projects at schools, church buildings, civic and community centers and arts organizations throughout the Rocky Mountain Power service territory. Blue Sky funding awards to these community buildings are made possible by Blue Sky participants.

Many thanks to the generous gifts from the parishioners of All Saints Episcopal Church and First Congregational Church that provided over 35% of the matching funds needed for the solar and energy storage project.

The project was designed and constructed by Creative Energies, a company that has been in the solar industry serving the intermountain west for over 24 years.
